Remembering the War and Creating the Future
I am writing this on November 11th, as we are remembering with gratitude all those who put their life on the line for us. I am indeed very grateful that Hitler did not win that war. It is indeed challenging to even try to imagine what our life would be like today if we had not had Winston Churchill and all the Canadian, British, and American troops who were able to win that horrible war.
I remember when I was 5 years old, in 1945, standing at the train station, in Teeswater, Ontario, Canada with my Mom and Dad, and many people to welcome the troops back from the war. The only other thing that I remember was the coupons and rations, and how getting food to eat was a challenge because of the shortage of food and money. And that war followed the first World war that I was reminded of when my mother gave me the medals from my great grandfather who bravely fought in that war.
When I think of war, and how we humans engage in fighting for increased landmass, having a different religion, or belief system, or wanting to have power over others, I marvel at our thinking and why that happens.
It is so much easier to share, and care, and live in the abundance of loving relationships that many of us experience. Thinking of war as a solution to any problem, especially when hundreds and thousands are killed in battle, is a fascinating perception. Winning is very costly! And so is losing to Hitler!
Eckhart Tolle, in his book: “A New Earth” calls it “Intelligent Stupidity” when we are smart enough to split the atom, and then we use it to make an atom bomb! So, what do we do with the intelligence that creates the need for us to protect ourselves, or have power over others? We can experience this in everyday life, without having to conjure up a huge battle field. We can find a potential battle in our own home, schoolroom, office, or parking lot! What can we do when confronted with anger and distrust in our everyday life so that we won’t have to go to war with someone?
What I find most useful is staying calm and engaging my Peace of Mind awareness. Sometimes taking 6 deep breaths, and staying grounded so that I can respond, rather than react to the drama being presented to me is very useful. Staying centred, and not taking what is said personally is also very helpful. Now that I know that everything someone says to me is their own projection I have more space to listen, and give back to them my most understanding, kind, and caring response.
It has taken me 80 years to figure this out, and it is very rewarding not to have to go to war with someone when I am attacked or threatened in some very powerful way. I love the British expression: “Stay calm and carry on!”
Speaking of a potential war, it is very interesting for me to see this happening before my eyes, in current time, with the current presidential US election. I watch Joe Biden respond to Donald Trump, stay calm, and sometimes respond with humour, as Trump refuses to acknowledge him as the person who won the election for the US presidency. Trump does as much as possible to destroy the American election for his own narcissistic needs and it is phenomenal to watch. So much for a government: “For the People and By the People,” and respect for the most basic system and structure of Democracy. In a moment of deep pandemic crisis what is needed is working in collaboration for the good of all. It is like watching a malignant malfeasance as the people surrounding him lack the ability and courage to speak publicly and support the process of creating Democracy. The mindset needed is for the whole country, rather than for a personal ego. Joe Biden is avoiding the polarization and making it difficult to go to war. He stays calm and refuses to fight, while respecting the will of the people, trusting the structure and the voting system. He looks like a real president, taking immediate action, and creating the transition.
We are all people and we are all one from the same Source Energy of Love that created us. No matter what you personally believe in, we were all created by a similar force. This realization is very helpful to me when I am in the presence of others who are disengaged in the process of humanity that connects us with our heart, soul, and mind. To know the bliss of who we humans really are as we transcend our way of Being into the next levels of awareness and a more loving consciousness will create the end to war.
